Grief is an emotion that we will all experience at some time or another.
The five stages of grief made popular by author Elizabeth Kubler Ross, in her book Death and Dying, are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. It is unclear whether these stages are experienced by everyone who grieves but one thing is certain...we all grieve.
The reason death is so hard to accept is because it is unnatural. We were never made to die! Death was introduced into the world the moment sin announced its arrival. For the Christian, there will come a day when death will be no more.
There is no remedy to grief outside of God's supernatural comfort to help us through it. The Bible says, "it's appointed unto man once to die..." which means we all have an appointment with death at some point,unless we are the ones caught away in 'the rapture'. Death is the frigid, icy bridge we must cross to enter eternity. Our assurance and greatest comfort comes from knowing that our loved ones that have passed away maintained a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and that they have gone to be with Him.
"Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should." - Psalm 90:12

Fear Not!
Fear is a threat that we perceive (real or unreal) that can have a debilitating effect on us.
The Bible teaches that "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 1:7). This is the only healthy fear. When we fear God, which is a reverential fear, it helps us to see that there is no need to fear man or circumstances. Also, in Luke 12 Jesus teaches us to fear God not man.
Unhealthy fear is the fear of people or circumstances. The opposite of FEAR is FAITH! They cannot co-habit your mind and heart! Faith eliminates fear, like turning on a light switch and darkness disappearing. Have faith in God (Mark 11:23), and fear will have to pack its bags!
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." - 2Tim. 1:7

Loneliness
Loneliness - A deep longing for heart felt interaction with another person or other people. For some, the void remains despite the existence of meaningful relationships...loneliness.
Whatever our perceived or felt needs are in this area, the truth of the matter is that if we are Christians, we are never alone. In Matthew 28:20, Jesus promised us, "I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
I believe the church is one of God's solutions to remedy loneliness. When believers get together something happens! We share our experiences and realize that we are not the only ones facing challenges. We find comfort in just being around others of like faith, and we get to encourage and uplift each other. There is also the fulfilment of getting involved in the work of the church that keeps us satisfied.
If you find yourself fighting feelings of loneliness, let me exhort you to consider these things. I will leave you with these words found in Isaiah...

Sexual Immorality
Sexual Immorality plagues our world today! It is responsible for countless marriages ending in divorce, children separated from parents, even ministers of the gospel becoming disqualified to continue leading the people God has entrusted them.
It is the age-old problem that deals with an unquenchable thirst for more. It is a beast that is never satisfied and thus it should not be entertained! God designed sex to meet the physical, social, and spiritual needs of a man and a woman, but like anything else, becomes perverted when practiced outside of His divine order. According to the Word of God, sex is only to be enjoyed by those who have made a commitment to covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. Anything else is sin in God's eyes!
This sexually charged society we live in will make you believe sex is okay with whomever, whenever... NOT SO! The Bible has lots to say about sexual and marital purity (Rom 1:24-32, 1Cor 6:9-10, Gal 5:19-21, Lev 18:6-30, 2Cor 11:2, and Titus 2:5). In Job 31:1, Job understood this, so he made a covenant with his eyes, not to look upon a woman lustfully. It would serve us well to make one too!
My friends, be pure before God and live a life that captures His favor, blessing, and power!
"For God wants you to be holy and pure, and to keep clear of all sexual sin so that each of you will marry in holiness and honor-not in lustful passion as the heathen do, in their ignorance of God and His ways." - 1Thes 4:4

A Time For Everything
What significant thing is happening in your life today?
Do you remember the saying, "If it ain't one thing it's something else"? Doesn't it seem like the moment one problem ends another begins? Well, that should be expected. In a lifetime we will experience the good, the bad and yes, the ugly! But I think we need to remember that each situation is temporal. Unfortunately, bad things do happen to good people in this sin ridden, fallen world and though some things last longer than others, they each have an expiration date.
Whatever you may be facing today, know that it had to have its time, but that time will also have an end. Don't let these things take you by surprise, that way you will go through them easier.
"There is a right time for everything: A time to be born; a time to die; a time to plant; a time to harvest; a time to kill; a time to heal; a time to destroy; a time to rebuild; a time to cry; a time to laugh; a time to grieve; a time to dance; a time for scattering stones; a time for gathering stones; a time to hug; a time not to hug; a time to find; a time to lose; a time for keeping; a time for throwing away; a time to tear; a time for repair; a time to be quiet; a time to speak up; a time for loving; a time for hating; a time for war; a time for peace." - Eccl. 3:1-8

Listen and Learn
Advice is like hair...everyone has some!
The Bible has a lot to say about advice. It is virtually an inexhaustible subject, so that should indicate just how important it is to God.
The problem is, people don't usually seek after good, Godly advice. We don't desire to become truly wise nor do we seek the advice of others. We often marvel at how King Solomon was the richest man that ever lived but do we remember what made him so wealthy? When he became king his prayer to God wasn't for riches or power or fame or notoriety...it was for the wisdom to lead God's people. The wealth then came as a byproduct of his wisdom.
We should all pray continually for wisdom. The world tells us that we should get knowledge. Knowledge is information, but wisdom is the ability to know what to do with that information.
"I, wisdom, give good advice and common sense. Because of my strength, kings reign in power, and rulers make just laws. I love those who love me. Those who search for me shall surely find me." - Proverbs 8:14-17

Scripture typo!!
My apologies! The scripture for my message "Stay In Church!" is found in Heb. 10:25, not Acts 10:25.
Stay In Church!
We all get tired of routine, same old; same old, ritual stuff, right?
Unfortunately we tend to feel that way about church from time to time. I know I do. But let me encourage you with this; God's house is your place of R & R. It's like a gas station to refill you after you've spent what you received the last time you were there. But it's not just our fuelling station for the soul, its the place where God's presence is available to you. He is always there waiting for you. He wants to give you what you need but He also wants what you have for Him. It's like when you would go on a date with someone you love; there was always an exchange taking place when you got together. He would bring you something, and you would bring him something, right?
God's house is also the place where others just like you have come. When you "fellowship" together, the wonderful sharing of stories, experiences, and just being together strengthens each one. This is exactly what the very first church experienced back in the book of Acts, and the Bible records that the church grew daily!
Please let me encourage you today. If you are already attached to a church where God's presence lives, stay committed! If you don't have a church like this, find one and commit there!
Don't just run to church when some tragedy happens! You know, its even more important these days, as the bible says "the times are evil". In addition, Jesus is coming soon!
"Let us not neglect our church meetings, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of His coming back again is drawing near." - Acts 10:25 (The Living Bible).

God Is Our Avenger
Is there someone that poses a threat to you?
We are not to be afraid of anyone that's out for us. Fear should never rule your life, no matter who it is that's after you! The Word says that we should not be afraid of those who can harm the body, only He who can destroy the soul!
God wants to avenge us from our enemies. How many times throughout the Bible have we seen God come to the rescue of His people? He never directs them to run, only to stand and see His salvation.
Whomever it is that may want to harm you in any way, turn them over to the Lord in prayer as David did - "Make haste, O God, to deliver me! Make haste to help me, O Lord! Let them be ashamed and confounded who seek my life; Let them be turned back and confused who desire my hurt." - Psalm 70:1-2

No Lack!
Do you find yourself falling a bit short of money these days?
Are you becoming a bit concerned because you don't have enough to cover all your bills? Can't shop like you would like to? Or maybe you're doing OK now but you're stressing over what could happen tomorrow?
Let me help you. First off, God knows your needs. The first verse of the 23rd Psalm says, "The Lord is my shepherd; I SHALL NOT WANT." God is your provider in all that you need. In the book of Matthew, Jesus called His followers "ye of little faith" because they did not believe in Him for provision. His instructions in chapter 6 verse 25 were, "...do not worry about your life. What you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on." He goes on to explain that the animals have no concern about these things yet God takes care of their needs, and if He does for them, how much more will He do it for us?
Starting today, let the stress go! God has you covered. You may not know how your need will be met but by faith it will.
"Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!...there is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger, but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing." - Psalm 34:8-10

Wait Patiently
Have you been praying for something and have not yet received an answer?
I know its frustrating when your prayers seem to hit a glass ceiling and go no further. You spend day after day asking, begging, and negotiating with God for an answer, but nothing! What is a Christian supposed to do now, right?
Have patience! Some answers require nothing more than waiting for God's timing. Heb 10:36 says, "You have need of patience, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise." When you know that you are doing God's will, pray and wait until your answer comes.
"I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps." - Psalm 40:1-2

God Can Do the Impossible
What really BIG thing are you believing God for?
In each of our lives there is at least one thing that we need, something considered to be very important, perhaps urgent. How are you dealing with yours? Have you been praying? Do you really believe that God can take care of it or have you ruled it out as impossible?
There is no doubting there are those special needs that do seem impossible, by natural standards. We can see no way through it by looking at what's available around us. Maybe that's why God tells us to "walk by faith, not by sight." - 2 Cor 5:7. We must believe we receive what we pray for, then we shall have it, according to Mark 11:24.
Remember, there is nothing God cannot do but He refuses to override your own will to believe in Him.
"But Jesus looked at them [His disciples] and said to them, 'With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible' " - Matthew 19:26

Our Liberty
There is one thing that we are all proud of here in this great country...our liberty!
Liberty is achieved on the backs of those who pay the price for it. There are many brave men and women that make it possible for us to enjoy the freedoms that we do. Here in America we are not enslaved, we are not burdened by dictatorship, we are free from oppression, we exercise freedom of speech and a right to worship as we please.
This is exactly what God had in mind for us. He so values our freedom that He gave us all the opportunity to choose against Him if we wanted! Just as our great soldiers pay the price for our national and civil freedom so did Christ pay the ultimate price for our spiritual freedom. We have freedom from the dictates of the devil. We are no longer slaves to our flesh or to sin, but have been liberated in God through Christ.
"For the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death." - Romans 8:2
Let's thank God for our freedom as a nation and for our freedom as His Children.

Pitfalls
Your enemy is always planning pitfalls for your destruction.
The devil isn't throwing a party on your behalf to celebrate your Christianity! You better believe he is busy having meetings with his demons, planning your demise. The Bible says he knows his time is short on the earth. He has nothing to look forward to but Hell itself, while you and I look forward to eternity with God. The devil's devises are neatly packaged and carefully disguised as normal, everyday problems; issues; situations. They really are pitfalls. Now let's understand, there are natural things that do go wrong in this sin ridden world, but please know that our very deceitful enemy is also at work, camouflaging his evil snares to blend in with everyday things, so as to go virtually unnoticed.
Here's the good news - God's promise to us is that if we live our lives in His presence, He protects us from our enemy, according to Psalm 91. Once we are hidden under His protection, the enemy cannot find us!
As you enjoy this great Independence holiday weekend, don't forget to put God first. Know that He is your protector. It seems like every holiday has its share of incident or fatality, but let God's presence cover you in your homes and wherever you go to ensure that you and your family are safe.
"I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.' Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler..." - Psalm 91:2-3

God's Not Mad at You
We all do things that we regret.
We harbor feelings of remorse for past actions and decisions, which is appropriate, but we carry the burden of them around with us. Many of us cannot let go of guilt because we feel unworthy of God's forgiveness. We think our sins are too extreme, and that God is mad at us.
Let me enlighten you. GOD IS NOT MAD AT YOU. Yes He hates sin, but He loves the sinner! There is nothing that you could ever do that would surprise Him. He knew the things you would do long before you ever did them, that's why He had a plan for your salvation. Jesus carried your burden so you no longer have to. Once we are truly repentant, God will "cast all our sins into the depths of the sea." - Micah 7:19. My friend, God is not mad at you. He loves you and has forgiven you, now you need to allow His forgiveness to release you from your self imprisonment.
"The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy." - Ps 145:8.

Get Rested
We often run ourselves aground working and "doing stuff" that all seem so important.
Ambition is a strength we should all possess but we need to be careful not to allow it to drive us over the edge. We can become so consumed by tasks and deadlines, projects and work, that we don't realize that we've crossed the invisible line that leads to poor health and fatigue. Once there, working becomes impossible anyway.
God has placed significant emphasis on rest, and has commanded us to do it. The seventh day of rest is for recovery and rejuvenation for the next round of working days. In the book of Exodus, God commanded the farmers to let the land take a rest at the end of each seven years from cultivating and harvesting.
God is concerned about us and gives these instructions for our benefit. Don't overwork yourself through overzealous ambition. Take a break and rest. Jump back in when you're fully energized. Don't worry, the work will still be there!
"And He [Jesus] said to them, 'Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while..." - Mark 6:31

Ambition is a strength we should all possess but we need to be careful not to allow it to drive us over the edge. We can become so consumed by tasks and deadlines, projects and work, that we don't realize that we've crossed the invisible line that leads to poor health and fatigue. Once there, working becomes impossible anyway.
God has placed significant emphasis on rest, and has commanded us to do it. The seventh day of rest is for recovery and rejuvenation for the next round of working days. Reaction
We all become angered at times because of things people say and do to us. Our greatest irritations stem from those situations where we were happily going along life when some body...!
This is now the most critical point in determining the way things turn out. We are suddenly faced with a choice on how to respond. In most cases DO NOT go with your first instinct! It's probably something vengeful and vindictive. Wait a moment, collect yourself (what's left of it), and choose to say something nice. How about taking them out for coffee or lunch? WHAT?? Yes, I said it.
As Christians we are accountable to create an atmosphere where God is glorified, always. Even to the point of laying aside our own feelings. Do you know you feelings have nothing to do with anything? The world says your feelings are priority, but in God's kingdom we "turn the other cheek" if someone slaps us. The bottom line is that our response can change the dynamic of every situation. Besides, God promises to "heap coals of fire" on the heads of those who do us wrong, if we respond His way. We get to determine how things will turn out. We can simply difuse a spark that wants to be a fire by responding with a soft, kind word.
"A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." - Prov. 15:1

Serve God and Others
What is the ultimate duty of a Christian?
We are saved through Christ, but not just to make it into Heaven. We have a duty to perform before leaving this people planet. That is the act of service. It's similar to being drafted into the military; being drafted is like being called by God, but then there is active duty that follows.
God has given each of us unique gifts and talents that are specially designed to do His work. Every one's not what we call a "people person" but we are all "people people" to God. We are the ones that God has chosen to reach others and to glorify Him. Think about it, you were saved because of something someone did or said that changed your life. A stone didn't fall from Heaven a hit you on the head, getting you saved, right?
Remember, your life should be committed to serving God and others. That simply means whatever God speaks in your heart to do, do it! Set aside a time each day to talk to God. Listen to His direction and follow it. Do whatever you can for someone else. Share Jesus with others and help to make their lives better because of the resident power of God within you.
"For you, brethren, have been called to liberty...through love serve one another." - Gal. 5:13
"For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men." - Rom. 14:18
Finally, Jesus said, "If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor." - John 12:26

Tell Someone
When was the last time you shared your faith with someone? Have you ever led a person to Christ? What about sharing a testimony of something incredible God did for you? Do you know that our testimony is always for someone else to hear?
God wants to do the same things in the lives of others that He did for you, so it is important that you tell others about your experiences. In the book of Acts, Paul, visiting Miletus, said this - "...I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ." - Acts 20:20-21
Here again - "And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify..." - Acts 10:42. Paul was referring to Jesus' instructions before leaving the earth. Those instructions are also for us today. We are blessed when we share our story of what Christ has done for us, and the hearers are blessed also. Don't keep it to yourself, someone is waiting for their breakthrough!

God is Good
Isn't God good? There is so much that we can be thankful for if we just stop and look.
When we committed our lives to Christ we put our trust in Him to save us; from ourselves and from the entrapment of sin that has been set by the evil one. Hasn't Almighty God done a great job of it?
Now of course we live in a fallen world that is cursed by sin, so things do go wrong. But, God's grace carries us through all that we experience when we put our faith in Him.
David recognized the goodness of God and he wrote many songs about it. This is an excerpt of one of them, found in Psalm 13:5, 6 - "But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, Because He has dealt bountifully with me."
When was the last time you sang to the Lord or told Him how good He is to you? He would love to hear it from your lips. The Bible also says that we ought to "tell of His goodness", not only to others but to God Himself.

My 7 Admonitions for You
Throughout God's word we are given various exhortations on how we should live. They serve as guidelines to make our way prosperous, and boundaries that help us avoid heartache, pain, even danger. I know we sometimes think the Bible is just a very long list of DO NOTs, but we really do find ourselves at peace when we follow God's rules. Think of them like a redlight; it's purpose is not to frustrate us, but to protect us.
I want to give you the 7 very short admonitions the Apostle Paul gave to the Thessalonians that I know will change your day and transform your life!
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks...Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil." - 2 Thes. 5:16-22
Make these a matter of principle and your life will be forever changed!

You Are Forgiven!
One of the devil's greatest weapons against God's people is the weapon of guilt.
The truth of the matter is that we all sin in some way, whether through premeditation or being caught up in the moment. 1John 1:8-10 says, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us."
God has given us one way out, and that is through repentance. True repentance, not just words spoken in an attempt to escape Hell. It must be an attitude of deciding to turn completely from sin, and toward God. He is faithful to forgive us!
If you have recently sinned against God and have already repented and asked for His forgiveness, don't allow guilt to hang around. God no longer remembers your sin, neither should you!

Keep Going!
We all have those days when we feel lethargic, bored and lifeless. We feel like there is no use fighting a seemingly pointless fight for something that has been unattainable for so long. Trying to reach the unreachable.
Well, God knew we would have days like this so He gave us some encouragement. Spoken through the pen of the Apostle Paul He said, "...do not grow weary in doing good...". We all become weak and tired, but if we allow the strength of God to sustain us, we will find ourselves looking back at the end of the day wondering how we made it.
My friends, the Bible says, 'let the weak SAY I am strong'. We must not let weary word proceed out of our mouths. Speak words of life and confess that you ARE strong!
" I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." - Phil. 4:13

Watchful Eyes
Do you know that some parents are known as overprotective? They are criticised for watching their children too closely, not wanting so much as a fly to land on them!
Our heavenly Father is that very same way with those of us who are His children. 1 Peter 3:12 says, "The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry." Regardless of what man's opinion of God is, the truth is that He loves us very much and is concerned with everything about us.
As you go about your day, remember that God is watching everything you do; not to condemn you or scold you, but to protect you.
"I will lift up my eyes to the hills-from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber...the Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore." - Psalm 121

Bear Much Fruit
A fruitful tree is pleasurable because it yields something that we all need and enjoy.
When we see an apple tree filled with apples we stop and look with that happy feeling, right? For some reason its pulchritude is one of the most amazing things to behold. That's because the tree, in all its splendor, displays God's amazing beauty. Secondly, it makes us salivate to imagine eating the lovely fruit. Finally, there is just something graceful about observing things as they fulfill their purposes. Jesus cursed a fig tree once, causing it to wither away because He was hungry and it was barren. It had no fruit.
We are expected to bear fruit. Our lives must be counted for something more than our own ambitions. Like the fig tree, we must produce the things we were created to produce.
"But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces..." - Mat. 13:23
"But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control..." - Gal. 5:22
A tree never eats its own fruit, its ALWAYS for somebody else's benefit! Whatever seeds you sow in yourself is the fruit others will see and eat from!

Praise Him!
In Psalm 100 we are instructed to enter God's presence thanking and praising Him, to bless His name because of His goodness toward us. This is the way we should always approach God. For centuries men were required to bring gifts to the king whenever they came into his presence. Remember when Jesus was born the three wise men brought the gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and myrrh? Well this was because they had heard that a king was born. Likewise, we today must come into God's presence bearing a gift, "enter His gates with thanksgiving...".
Throughout Old Testament times farmers brought sacrifices to the temple, which were the fruit of their labor that came from the ground that they had harvested. Today we are required to bring our sacrifices the same way, from our livelihood which is the money were earn. But also, God is asking us to bring the sacrifice of our praises, and He makes the analogy of the fruit by saying, "Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name." - Heb. 13:15.
If you haven't already began, let today be the start of your thanksgiving to God for His goodness and mercy toward you and your family. When you open your eyes in the morning and you realize you can jump out of bed, give Him thanks! When you lie down to sleep at night and you remember that God took care of you and your loved ones all day, give Him thanks!
"It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night." - Ps. 92:1-2.

A Cross To Bear
Today's short message covers a very uncomfortable and unpopular subject. However, I would be remiss to only give you the tasty treats of the gospel and leave out the meat and veggies, good for your spiritual health and sustenance. I am talking about bearing your cross of suffering.
Jesus was loved and accepted by many as He went about healing the sick, delivering the oppressed, and raising the dead. But He was hated by most because their sins were exposed as He came near to them. It was not His teaching alone but also His amazing presence that convicted sinners and gave them an awareness of their own shameful lives. Isn't it the same today as the world no longer wants the Ten Commandments in the public square or prayer in schools? Now they are trying to silence preachers in their own churches on Sunday mornings!
Jesus gave us fair warning that because we are His followers we too will be hated by this world. "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved." - Matt. 10:22. His command is that we endure in the face of adversity, which means 'to continue in the same state; to remain firm under suffering'. Just as Christ Himself bore a cross of shame and rejection for us, we too have a responsibility as His followers to bear our crosses daily, identifying ourselves with Him. It starts with us removing our own selfish desires out of the way to make room for His. Jesus said it this way, "...if anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me." - Luke 9:23.
My friends, let me encourage you to stand through whatever comes at you for being identified with Jesus. He said in verse 26, "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory...". The truth is the world will hate us because it hates Him! Nevertheless, let must stand without fear and without shame. The Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes...".
Do not be taken by surprise when people dislike you for being a Christian. Know that when you show up on the scene you bring the presence of God with you, and this will make them uneasy. Let's boldly bear our crosses for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who first bore it for us!

Love Til It Hurts!
Hello Friends,
Do you have a friend that you love and share your heart with but they don't reciprocate back to you? How about a pestering, opinionated workmate that seems to have 'Parrot-itus'?! Oh, I know, you must have that extremely annoying neighbor that makes too much noise above you, or always parks in "the good spot", right? I bet you know that one at the grocery store who swung in front of you at the check-out, making 40mph! You can still smell the burning rubber from their cart wheels!
Well, we all seem to encounter people like this on a daily basis. They're everywhere! But do you know that God commanded us to love them? Now I know the last thing in the world you want to do is think about God when some one's rude to you, but if you practice giving them a kind word or choosing to smile or say nothing, I promise you it would get easier with each experience.
Jesus said that He would know that we are His disciples because of the love we have for each other. He also said this, "But I say to you , love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you." - Matt. 5:44. Wow! That's a lot to ask, right? But I think Jesus, of all people is quite qualified to speak! Here's a noteworthy fact: Only four of The Ten Commandments deal with how to treat God; the other six deals with how to treat others! So beginning today, let's begin to practice the love of God...even when it hurts!
"Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma." - Eph. 5:1-2

Back to Basics
"In the beginning God..." - Genesis 1:1
I believe most of our problems could be solved using the first four words of the Bible!
Once we get the revelation that God is not only at the beginning of it all, but that He IS the beginning, we save ourselves the stress. In Rev. 1:8 Christ declares, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end..." God has been around before time because He does not exist within time. Time was created by Him for us. In fact, everything was created by Him and for Him - "For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions, principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him." - Col. 1:16.
My point today is simple. Sometimes we must go back to basics, back to the beginning in order to understand the present, and prepare for the future. God is in control! Always was! Always will be! I know it doesn't look like it when we consider the resident evil in our world , but we must understand that those who choose evil will one day face the judgement of God to pay the penalty - "but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness - indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil...for there is no partiality with God." - Romans 2:8-11.
My friends, God is at the beginning and the end of your problem. Release it to Him and resolve it in your heart that He's got it. Do what you can and let God do what you can't!

His Horror for Our Healing
Last night I delivered a message to my church called His Horror for Our Healing, where I broke into Is. 53:4, 5. There wasn't a dry eye in the building as I described some of the details of the horrors our Savior suffered for our salvation and healing.
I described what we call 'The Cat of Nine Tails' which is actually a British term Christians use. It comes from a poorly made replica that feels like a feather in comparison! The real name of this torture tool is Flagrum. I explained that each of the nine leather tails had lead tips, each embedded with extremely sharp glass, teeth, and nails. It tore through our precious Lord leaving what can only be imagined as strips of ribbon. This tool was so deadly and torturous, it is said that a twelve year old girl could do irreparable damage to a man using it. The Roman soldiers known as Lictors would stand in pairs, one on each side of the victim, and take turns striking, ripping, and slicing into the back of the victim, who would often pass away before their prescribed beating was completed. Many of the ones that did not die right away would suffer disembowelment, or would lose a major organ or artery.
My friends, this is truly what Jesus suffered for us, and the amazing thing is that He knew what He was about to face but went along willingly anyway!
Today, let's ponder the magnitude of what Christ really suffered for us.
"Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." - Is. 53:4, 5

An Oily Situation!
A major crisis has arisen in the Gulf that has been called the worst environmental disaster in American history! I am speaking of course, of the oily mess that has slowly crept its way to our beautiful shores from within the Gulf of Mexico. Wildlife has been bitterly affected by the encroachment, as there seem to be no soon resolve to this catastrophe!
Ironically, the old adage, "oil and water don't mix" comes to mind. But I want to use the analogy of this massive misfortune to draw you to an even worse calamity facing our nation; the invading forces of sin!
Throughout history the battle of good vs. evil, godliness vs. ungodliness has been waging. There is no ignoring the fact that it continues today, just as strong and relentless as it was at the genesis of time when man decided to sin against his God. Over time, we have allowed the lust for sexual and material gratification take us to a place of self worship, far removing the very notion that there is a God who actually disapproves of such behavior. I'm talking about the problem of SIN.
Just as the oil has been slowly invading our precious living space by way of water, so it is we have been allowing sin to creep its ugly way into our nation and into our lives. Just as oil and water do not mix together, so it is that sin and godliness was never meant for cohabitation! This nation was founded on godly principles by strong leaders who were unafraid to proclaim their belief in the true and living God; men that ruled and governed this land according to Biblical standards. Not only do we need to stop and re-evaluate our world view, but we need also to take inventory of our own personal lives. We must stop the toxic gushing of hatred, lust, greed, godlessness, even indifference, from further intrusion upon the shores of this land as well as our own lives!
"Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law but under grace." - Romans 6:11-14
